Narrowed Topic: Collect used computers that are decent and donate them to the Wa Chun School and possibly raise enough money to set up an internet network at the Wa Chun School.
Organization One:
What is the organization? The organization is called Alameda County Computer Resource Center (ACCRC) and they help with housing and homelessness and youth development and education and donate computers to people with those issues. What exactly are they doing to try and combat or change your issue?
ACCRC are basically restoring old computer parts and refurbishing them to make computers to donate to schools and non-profit organizations. This will help change the issue of digital divide because they are getting more and more people into technology and computers. What are some of the things you like about their program?
One thing I like about the organization is it uses recycled products and makes computers which are not expensive. Another thing I liked about them is that they started small and now they are a huge organization. They are donating computers to schools, NGOs, countries like Estonia and Latvia and are setting up a youth center for children to learn about computers and a place to do homework. What are some questions you have about it?
- You started with nothing and made computers to donate to schools but now you are a huge organization how did you make it to here? -How has your organization changed from the start to now? -Was there difficulties managing your organization? How could you become involved with this organization or model your action plan after it? We could use 2nd hand computers just like they used recycled things and we could expand our organization like theirs. By starting small by helping a local school in Shanghai and start helping others and eventually start a learning program for kids.
Organization Two:
What is the organization? The organizations name is DDN and it stands for Digital Divide Network. There organization is donating computers and establishing internet for local areas that doesn’t have access to technology. What exactly are they doing to try and combat or change your issue? They are trying to raise money at first and through that money get computers and internet for schools and other areas that doesn’t have access to technology. What are some of the things you like about their program? Some things I like about their organization are that they raise money to get computers and internet so it won’t be as hard. Another thing I like is that they are just having fundraisers and getting computers and internet for local people; suck a simple idea could help change the world. What are some questions you have about it?
- What are some effective fundraisers that helped you raise the most money? - How did you choose which computers to get? - How did your organization change from when it started to now? How could you become involved with this organization or model your action plan after it? We could have fundraisers to help us with getting internet access for the kids in the Wa Chen School. We could start with that school and go on to other school and continue to help others get access to technology.
